Description:

The Villa Bernasconi is an artspace in Iancy near Geneva. It is situated inside a Villa Bourgeois which was built in the 19th century.
For the exhibition (line (cross the), seven artists were invited to design one of the rooms in the building.

The chamber is completely empty, apart from a typical furniture form the “Salon Bourgois”, a sofa, upholstered with velvet. Two velvet cloths in similar color are hanging on the wall and an abstract image is projected on them, whereas the slide projector remains undiscovered as it is hidden somewhere in the room. This way, the installation reminds us more of a classical abstract painting, than a slide projection. A transparent curtain at the window immerses the room in smooth and mysterious light.
In addition to that, the beholder is actively involved into the work, given by a play with light and shadow. If we approach one of the “pictures” on the wall, we suddenly discover our own shadow on the “canvas”. Simultaneously, the shadow of a female figure appears on the other “picture”, even though no one else is present in the room.
This whole arrangement reminds us a little bit of art in the context of the bourgeois interieur in the past. It is also refers to the window and the image as interface between the inner and the outer world, between our momentary perception and our memories.
